Little Women is an 1868 coming-of-age novel by American novelist Louisa May Alcott (1832-1888).
Alcott wrote the book, originally published in two volumes in 1868 and 1869, at the request of the publisher. The story follows the lives of March's four sisters (Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy), recounting their journey from childhood to womanhood. Loosely based on the life of the author and her three sisters, the book is also an autobiographical or semi-autobiographical novel by the author.

When Marmee asks her daughters to share Christmas breakfast with poor families, the girls and their mother venture into town with baskets to feed the hungry children...

Alcott was an abolitionist and feminist, and she remained unmarried her entire life. Throughout her life, she was active in reform movements such as temperance and women's suffrage. She died of a stroke in Boston on March 6, 1888, two days after her father.
Alcott's classic novel was adapted into a 1934 film, 1940 film, 1998 film, TV series, and Japanese TV anime series.
