The first six chapters of the novel were serialized in Mary's Museum magazine between July and August 1869. Alcott added 13 chapters to the novel before publishing it. The book revolves around Polly Milton, an old-fashioned girl who visits the wealthy family of her friend Fanny Shaw in the city and is overwhelmed by the sophisticated life they lead and unnerved by how the family members do not understand one another.

Summary
Her cheerful 14-year-old country girl Polly Milton visits her friend Fanny Shaw and her affluent family in her town for the first time. Poor Polly dislikes the Shaws for the most part, overwhelmed by their glamor and their urbanized, fashionable lifestyle, expensive clothes and other habits she has never been exposed to. Fanny's friends look down on her for her different behavior and simple dress, Fanny's brother Tom makes fun of her, and Fan himself sometimes finds her odd, but Polly's warmth, support and kindness eventually end up in all family members. Captivate her old-fashioned way and teach her a lesson she'll never forget.

Louisa May Alcott (November 29, 1832 - March 6, 1888) was the author of the novels 'Little Women' (1868) and its sequels 'Little Men' (1871) and 'Jo's Boys'. ) is an American novelist, short story writer, and poet best known as the author of Raised in New England by transcendentalist parents Abigail May and Amos Bronson Alcott, she grew up among many famous intellectuals of her day, such as Ralph Waldo Emerson, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Henry David Thoreau, and Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.
Alcott was an abolitionist and feminist, and she remained unmarried her entire life. Throughout her life, she was active in reform movements such as temperance and women's suffrage. She died of a stroke in Boston on March 6, 1888, two days after her father.
Alcott's classic novel was adapted into a 1934 film, 1940 film, 1998 film, TV series, and Japanese TV anime series.
