A tragedy written by Euripides in 408 B.C., describing the events of Orestes murder of his mother. Euripides (480 – c. 406 BC) was a classical Athenian tragedy writer. Along with Aeschylus and Sophocles, he is one of only three ancient Greek tragedians whose plays have survived completely.

Euripides (480-406 BC) is one of the greatest tragic poets in ancient Athens, along with Aeschylus and Sophocles. Today, 18 tragedies written by him remain. His play, which contained rational foreknowledge, liberalism, and humanitarian thought, had a great influence on modern European tragedy literature.
Euripides was influential in theatrical innovations that have profoundly influenced drama down to modern times, especially in presenting traditional and mythological heroes as ordinary people in extraordinary circumstances. This new approach led him to pioneering developments adapted by later writers to comedies, some of which had romance characteristics. He also became "the most tragic of poets", writing works that focused on the inner worlds and motivations of his characters in a way previously unknown.
