빌레트(Villette)는 영국 작가 Charlotte Brontë가 쓴 1853년 소설이다. 불명의 가족 재해가 발생한 후 주인공 루시 스노우는 모국인 영국에서 가상의 프랑스어를 사용하는 도시 빌레트로 여행하며 여학교에서 가르치고 그곳에서 모험과 로맨스에 빠지게 된다.
이 책은 샬럿 브론테(Charlotte Brontë)의 생애 동안 출판된 세 번째이자 마지막 소설이다.

Villette is an 1853 novel by British author Charlotte Brontë. After an unknown family disaster, the protagonist Lucy Snow travels from her native England to the fictional French-speaking city of Villette, where she teaches at a girls' school and falls in love with adventure and romance.
This book is the third and final novel published during the life of Charlotte Brontë.

줄거리

이 책은 소극적인 것으로 유명한 14세의 루시 스노우가 영국의 "깨끗하고 오래된 브레튼 마을"에 있는 대모 브레튼 부인의 집에 머무르는 것으로 시작한다. 또한 거주지에는 Bretton 부인의 10대 아들인 John Graham Bretton(가족이 Graham이라고 부름)과 젊은 방문자인 Paulina Home(Poly라고 부름)이 있다. Polly는 곧 그녀에게 관심을 쏟아주는 Graham에 대한 깊은 사랑을 갖게되는 어린 소녀다. 그러나 폴리의 방문은 그녀의 아버지가 그녀를 해외에서 함께 살자고 부르면서 변하게 되는데..

The book begins with 14-year-old Lucy Snow, who is famous for being shy, staying at the home of Madame Bretton, her godmother in England's "clean and old town of Bretton". The residence also includes Mrs. Bretton's teenage son, John Graham Bretton (the family calls him Graham), and a young visitor, Paulina Home (calls them Poly). Polly is a young girl who soon develops her deep love for Graham, who gives her attention. However, her visit to her Polly changes when her father calls her to live with her abroad...

샬럿 브론테(Charlotte Brontë, 1816 ~ 1855)는 영국의 소설가이다. 영국의 북부 요크셔의 손턴에서 출생한 브론테 자매의 첫째이다. 1842년 벨기에 브뤼셀에서 유학을 한 후 영국에 돌아와 1846년에 동생 에밀리와 앤과 함께 시집을 출판하였으나 2부밖에 팔리지 않았다. 그러나 2달만에 다시 동생들과 《폭풍의 언덕》,《아그네스 그레이》와 함께 《교수》를 썼으나《폭풍의 언덕》, 《아그네스 그레이》만 채택되고 《교수》는 채택되지 못했다. 그렇지만 1847년에 소설 《제인 에어》를 발표하여 크게 호평을 받았다. 그리고 이 기세를 받아 《셜리》를 쓰던 샬럿은 에밀리와 앤이 결핵으로 죽고 장례식을 치른 후에 자신의 동생 에밀리를 그린 《셜리》(1849)를 출간했다.
