It is no secret that Alcott based Little Women on her own early life. While her father, the freethinking reformer and abolitionist Bronson Alcott, hobnobbed with such eminent male authors as Emerson, Thoreau, and Hawthorne, Louisa supported herself and her sisters with "woman’s work,” including sewing, doing laundry, and acting as a domestic servant. But she soon discovered she could make more money writing. Little Women brought her lasting fame and fortune, and far from being the "girl’s book” her publisher requested, it explores such timeless themes as love and death, war and peace, the conflict between personal ambition and family responsibilities, and the clash of cultures between Europe and America.
루이자 메이 올컷은 미국의 소설가다. 펜실베이니아에서 태어났으나 56세로 사망할 때까지 생애의 대부분을 보스턴과 콩코드에서 보냈다. 저서로는 작은 아씨들과 아이들(1886), 등little men(1871) 등이 있다.

Louisa May Allcut is an American novelist. Born in Pennsylvania, he spent most of his life in Boston and Concord until his death at age 56. His books include Little Girls and Children (1886), and Little Men (1871).
